WakeWare can be thought of as the all-inclusive laptop. Each WakeWare model includes four years of SafeWare damage protection, with on-campus repairs at The Bridge (Information Systems’ IT service desk in the ZSR Library). The Information Systems “tech shop” handles the repair process for each student, and any arrangements with vendors. Read more about these coverage programs on the Safeware site.

Check coverage

If you purchased a WakeWare device, your coverage is registered with SafeWare by the Taylor Bookstore. You can check your coverage on your laptop serial number using SafeWare’s coverage lookup tool.

What makes SafeWare different from AppleCare or other programs?

AppleCare and other protection programs are excellent and may be preferred based on a student’s needs. However, these plans typically have a per-repair out-of-pocket cost. In most cases, WakeWare repairs have no such out-of-pocket fee. Review each plan’s terms and conditions to see what works best for you.

What does Safeware cover?

WakeWare (SafeWare) repair coverage includes four years of accidental and other repair costs, up to the purchase price of the laptop. This may include liquid spills, screen cracks, or other physical damage, and many other scenarios. SafeWare does not cover loss or theft, although this can be added for an additional fee. Review SafeWare’s Frequently Asked Questions page if you have specific questions on your coverage plan or contact the team at The Bridge for assistance.

What is the difference between Safeware and AppleCare?

While plans vary, AppleCare plans typically include a “copay” for each repair, with limits on how many events are covered. Safeware has no deductible or copay, and no limit on the amount of repair events, up to the purchase price of the laptop.

What is the difference between Safeware and AppleCare+?

For a similar cost, Safeware covers your laptop for four years, while AppleCare+ is only for three years. AppleCare+ also has deductibles ranging from $100 – $300 and you are only limited to two accidental damage incidents. With Safeware, there are no deductibles and there is no limit on the number of accidents, just as long as the cost of repairs do not exceed the total cost of the laptop.
