Announcements | Jun 11, 2018

Information Systems is pleased to announce the addition of Statuspage to the IS website.

Whether it’s a server issue, bug in production, or scheduled maintenance, downtime may happen. Statuspage provides a way to get in front of incident communication so IS can focus on fixing the problem at hand.

Statuspage is displayed in the top menu of the IS website and is available at status.is.wfu.edu.

Simply click on the icon to view a detailed description of an incident. Additionally, our campus community can choose to opt into real-time outage and scheduled maintenance alerts via a simple sign up.

Newly created calendar events with a video meeting link will contain a Meet video meeting link instead of a classic Hangouts video link. Existing calendar events will be unchanged and continue to use classic Hangouts through August 13, 2018. Hangouts Meet meetings also include a U.S. dial-in phone number.

More information about getting started using Meet can be found here.

University recommends Twitter users change their password

Alerts | May 07, 2018

Via Business Insider:

Twitter is advising all its 330 million users to change their password after a glitch left them exposed in the company’s internal systems.

Twitter discovered the glitch and did not find any “breach or misuse by anyone,” the company said in a blog post.

The bug left passwords in an internal log “unmasked,” meaning that instead of showing up as an encrypted set of random set of letters and numbers, the password itself was displayed in plain text.

Even though the company says it has no reason to believe anyone obtained any sensitive information, it is telling users to change their password “out of an abundance of caution.”
