Amazon WorkSpaces provides a virtual desktop environment that leverages the power of cloud computing and is accessible on nearly any device.

Faculty, students, and staff with an Apple M series processing chip may need a WorkSpace to virtualize windows-based applications. You can check which processor your computer has here. Please be aware virtual environments can present challenges for assistive technology users. Please contact for help@wfu.edu for additional support.

Request the provisioning of a WorkSpace by completing this Common Request.

Setting up your WorkSpace

Once requested and approved, you will receive instructions via email on how to set up your WorkSpace. Your WorkSpace will come loaded with Chrome, Google Drive for Desktop, and Firefox. You will be responsible for visiting software.wfu.edu and downloading your required software in your WorkSpace.

WorkSpace Best Practices

  • Do not store any files/documents/data on your WorkSpace. In the event of a crash, your data may not be accessible. We recommend using Google Drive for Desktop to save anything.
  • If you need to print from your WorkSpace, either save to Google Drive to access from your local machine, or visit deacprint.wfu.edu (for students) if on campus.
  • Shutdown your WorkSpace prior to closing your laptop screen. Failure to shutdown properly could lead to a corrupted WorkSpace that requires rebuilding and starting afresh.
    • To shutdown, click the Windows Start button → the Power Icon → select Shut down.
  • If your WorkSpace is not functioning properly, there are a number of troubleshooting steps we recommend trying. Visit this help article to learn more.

Amazon uses the same maintenance window as Wake Forest, so you may experience a disruption in service on Saturday mornings.
