Sarah Parsons

Sarah Parsons is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in Computer Science at Wake Forest University, specializing in introductory programming and data visualization. She integrates generative AI into her curriculum as a collaborative “co-pilot,” teaching students to augment their hand-written code while critically reviewing the often inefficient outputs generated by large language models. To combat cognitive offloading, Parsons redesigns her classroom into an active laboratory where students tackle the hard struggle of programming collaboratively in person. Outside the classroom, she leverages AI for complex personal coding projects, such as building automated web-scraping scripts.
