Make Your Courses More Inclusive with the Course Caption Grant!
Celebrate Women in Tech with The Women’s Center
Information Systems (IS) and its Technology Accessibility Team are excited to offer Wake Forest faculty members the Course Caption Grant. This grant provides an opportunity to have your course videos proactively captioned, making them more inclusive for all students.
The first grant round is open now; applications are processed on an ongoing basis.
What media is eligible?
- Audio and video used in official WFU courses (present or future).
- The grant is for pre-recorded videos and audio.
- If you have complex captioning, transcript, or audio description needs, please contact tap@wfu.edu to discuss options.
What factors are considered for awarding the grant?
- Duration of use: How many courses and semesters will students use the content?
- Learning objectives: Is the video essential for achieving course learning goals?
- Student reach: Will the video be used by a large or small number of students?
- Captioning length: How many minutes of video require captioning?
- Existing materials: Is a script or transcript available for syncing with the video?
Note: if captions are requested to support a student registered for accommodations through the CLASS office, information will be shared with CLASS so they can offer the faculty member support through the standard accommodation process.
We encourage all faculty to apply, even if unsure if their media is a strong candidate!
Application process:
- Complete the Course Caption Grant form.
- The faculty member will be contacted with further information within 3-5 business days. (If the video/audio will be used in a course within a week of application please note that when submitting.)
- If approved, your accurate and human-generated captions will be delivered back to you in a timely fashion, ready to be shared with your students.
We encourage you to take advantage of this valuable grant and make your courses more inclusive for all students!
