Important Security Update: Implement Google Passkeys to Resist the Phish
A recent phishing attempt targeted several Wake Forest University accounts and unfortunately led some to share their passwords and two-step verification information. To beat hackers at their own game, the entire University community is encouraged to implement Google Passkeys!
Google Passkeys offer a significant security upgrade because they are:
- Easily implemented: The setup process is straightforward and quick.
- Incredibly phishing-resistant: Their design prevents them from being intercepted or used by unauthorized individuals.
- Secure digital “keys”: Stored securely on your trusted devices, they leverage the same technology you use for device unlocking.
- Superior to other 2-Step Verification methods: Unlike SMS codes or calls, passkeys only work on trusted devices and require proximity to the login device.
Adding Google Passkeys to your WFU account is simple and quick. You can find step-by-step instructions here.
As always, email us at infosec@wfu.edu if you have any questions or concerns or need assistance setting up your Google Passkeys.
Working together, we can maintain a secure digital environment for our University.
