David Phillips (phillips@wfu.edu) is Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Humanities, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1994.  He received his PhD in City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, and is co-founder of the Digital Humanities Initiative, as well as a strong supporter of the Humanities Institute. His research interests include the interface between environmental humanities, public and engaged humanities, and innovations in scholarly digital publishing. Area research and teaching foci include environmental and sustainability studies, environmental humanities, the built environment and urban design, ecofeminism, and coastal resiliency planning.  His current book project, Ecological Futures, explores lessons from ecology, place-making and the humanities in creating community in vulnerable urban coastal zones.
