As we settle into a new academic year, it’s the perfect time to take stock of the tools we use every day — and it turns out Google Workspace has been busy over the summer. From smarter AI assistance to more thoughtful scheduling controls, these updates are designed to save you time and reduce the small frictions that add up during a busy semester. Whether you’re managing a packed teaching schedule, coordinating committee work, or simply trying to keep your inbox under control, here’s what’s new and how it can help.

  • Gemini AI Side Panel-Get instant help summarizing long email threads, drafting responses, or analyzing Drive documents directly from the side panel in Gmail, Docs, and Drive.
  • Automated Meeting Notes in Google Meet-You can now pre-configure automated AI note-taking (“Take notes for me”) for scheduled Google Meet calls so action items and transcripts are automatically saved directly to your Google Doc recap.
  • Enhanced Calendar Sharing Controls-A new calendar permission level allows you to grant delegate edit access to your schedule while keeping private event details entirely hidden as “see only free/busy.”

These updates are just a sample of what’s available to you across Google Workspace this fall. There’s more to explore with the latest Google Workspace features and guides. As always, if you have questions about getting started with any of these features, don’t hesitate to reach out to The Bridge Service Desk for assistance.
