Gary Miller’s research considers both healthy behavioral lifestyle changes of nutrition and physical activity as well as bariatric surgery interventions in obesity and weight loss. Most of his work focuses on older adults with impaired physical function. He also has an active line of research in studying the impact that consuming beetroot juice, which is high in dietary nitrates, on health and exercise performance outcomes in older adults. Miller has published in the leading peer-reviewed journals in his field of study, including American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Obesity, International Journal of Obesity, Journal of Nutrition Health and Aging, Journal of Gerontology, and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Nitric Oxide, Nutrition Journal, and the Journal of the American Medical Association. Besides research, Miller leads groups on study abroad programs that experience the food and physical activity culture of various countries.
