Protect your data and our campus: Responsibly dispose of technology equipment
Data Security Risks
Devices like printers and cameras can store data that, if not properly recycled or disposed of, could lead to identity theft, financial fraud, or other harmful consequences. Similarly, computers and tablets often contain a wealth of personal and confidential information. Simply deleting files or reformatting a hard drive doesn’t guarantee data security.
Secure Disposal of Tech at Wake Forest
When discarding devices, take proper steps to protect sensitive information and minimize e-waste. All university technology equipment should be properly disposed of through the Facilities E-Waste Recycling Program, and never through a third-party “service.”
- Learn how to dispose of your gear through Wake Forest Facilities Management e-waste disposal. Students, faculty, and staff may use e-waste disposal bins conveniently placed across campus, or departments can arrange a free pickup.
- WFU computers should be sent back to Information Systems for proper disposal.
Environmental Impact
Electronic waste, or e-waste, contains hazardous materials that can harm our soil and water. Proper e-waste disposal and recycling help conserve resources and reduce pollution on our campus and community.
