Starting with the next time you are due to change your WFU password, you will notice a couple of changes. Campus users will now be required to change their password once a year, rather than every six months. With this extended timeframe, it is important to strengthen the sophistication of our campus passwords. These new requirements align with peer institution and industry standard requirements.
- Passwords will now require at least 8 characters with a maximum of 32 characters.
- You may not reuse your most 10 most recently used passwords.
- You will now need to change your password once a year, rather than every 6 months.*
- It is recommended that your passwords include both a combination of digits and letters.
*There is a list of users with access to privileged information that will now be required to change their password every 90 days. These users have already been notified.
Other enhancements to strengthen our passwords on campus is the addition of a password dictionary that will reject known weak passwords, such as “password1”.
Users will continue to be reminded their password will expire 9, 6, and 3 days before expiration. You will be able to change your password, reset your forgotten password, and update your account recovery information by visiting account.wfu.edu, our new password management portal.
